The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare wishes to inform the public that the 2017 National Gender Conference will take place from 30th November to 1st December, 2017 at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. The Conference is a forum that brings together all actors who promote gender equality and women empowerment to take stock of activities implemented, identify challenges and map out a way forward for gender equality and women empowerment interventions in Malawi. The theme of the 2017 Conference is “Building a Strong National Gender Machinery with Strengthened Partnerships.” The conference will be convened with the aim of providing a platform for continued dialogue on the advancement of women empowerment and gender equality in the context of new policy environment nationally and globally such as the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals. It is expected that by the end of the conference participants will provide recommendations for legislative environments for implementing policies on Gender Based Violence (GBV), Economic Empowerment of Women (EEW) and Political Empowermet of Women (PEW); identify best practices and lessons learned in implementation of GBV, EEW and PEW; and finally highlight future trends and priorities in Gender Machinery enhancement. Members of the public are being informed that participation to the conference is strictly by invitation and that all invited participants to the conference will receive invitation letters. Further, the conference will be convened on full board basis for those travelling from outside Lilongwe and that fuel refunds will be provided only to those who cannot sponsor their accommodation and transportation.
