Call for Project Concept Notes for the Malawi Innovation Challenge Fund Irrigation Window

Oct 11, 2017

The Malawi Innovation Challenge Fund (MICF) is a competitive, transparent mechanism that provides grant finance for innovative, inclusive business projects proposed by the private sector active in Malawi.

The fund is designed to be a quick, responsive mechanism that understands the needs of the private sector. MICF provides matching grants between US$ 100,000 to US$ 500,000 to test innovative inclusive business models implemented by businesses in the Irrigation sector, which if successful, can deliver large social impact to the poor.

This window is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Department for International Development (UKAid) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The project promoters must provide matching funds of at least 50% of the total cost of the business idea and demonstrate capacity to implement their proposed project. MICF now invites businesses involved in the Irrigation sector in Malawi to submit a concept note which outlines the proposed project.

Bids must be led and submitted by a for-profit private sector company, also in partnership with other organizations, including NGOs and Community organizations.

The deadline for submission of concept notes is 17:00 hours (Malawi time) on 3rd of November 2017. Selected applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal. Full details of the eligibility criteria, application process and project concept forms are available on the MICF website
