Resilience and
Sustainable Growth (RSG)

Goals and Objectives

The Resilience and Sustainable Growth (RSG) portfolio of UNDP Malawi supports a range of complementary nationally implemented programmes and initiatives to catalyse risk-informed, inclusive and resilient development.

To contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS III), interventions under the portfolio align to two signature themes:

  • Enhancing economic innovation, inclusive business and renewable energy access.
  • Scaling up resilience to shocks and modernizing early warning and climate information services for risk-informed livelihoods and development.

In 2018, the RSG portfolio supports nationally implemented programmes in 21 of Malawi’s 28 districts. Through its innovation challenge pillar, RSG has also partnered with 20 companies to bring market-based solutions to development challenges such as water purification and affordable irrigation technology, while also generating employment and social impact.  Engagement with civil society organizations and research and education institutions remains cross-cutting across the portfolio, with partnerships in the areas of disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and strengthening resilience to shocks.
