Transferring Technical Knowledge and Source Code to Malawi Government

By transferring the source code, empowering the key staff with technology knowledge and building the capacity of NRB – UNDP has fulfilled its’ promise

After successful registration and distribution of national ID cards to 9.2 million Malawi citizens, National Registration and Identification Systems (NRIS) Project, achieved another milestone.  Transfer of the source code – fundamental computer program, with all its software components defining NRIS has been transferred over to NRB in a handover ceremony held at UNDP Country office Malawi. Prior to this technical knowledge was transferred by training key technical staff drawn from various key departments of Government of Malawi. Maria Jose Torres, UNDP Resident Representative handed over NRIS source code to Hon. Cecilia Chazama, MP, the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security.

“By transferring the source code, empowering the key staff with technology knowledge and building the capacity of NRB – UNDP has fulfilled its’ promise” remarked UNDP Resident Coordinator.  Hon. Cecilia Chazama, MP., thanked UNDP Project team, the Development Partners – Norwegian Embassy, Irish Aid, UK Aid, USAID and the European Union for their support to the project.  “I am glad that we achieved this key milestone, we are proud to take the ownership of the system” remarked Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
